Never the End
I want to stop crying for you
because this is breaking me beyond repair
I want to stop thinking of you
because this love is no longer in the air.
How did we end up like this?
With me here and you over there
so untouchable, so unreachable,
like a mirrage that was never real.
I want to believe that it did exist
that there was a time where we loved each other,
I want to believe that it wasn't a dream
that there was so much more we could've offered.
But you're long gone by now
and I'm left with only the memories
and I'm so scared to think about you
because the more I do, the less I see.
Is it even possible to forget what we had?
Please don't let this become a whisper of the past,
Will you ever think of us when you look back?
Please, don't cast me out just like that.

I do like this piece but the last verse doesn't quite work for me as well as the previous 5. The hopelessness of not being able to love the one you want is very obvious here because of their betrayal or that rather annoying word, cheat. It's almost, 'that old chestnut again', I hear myself say! We never want it to be the end even though deep down we know when that time has come. Losing trust in someone can be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. If only I were talking about the Grand National horse race here. If only...

Absolutely spectacular. Great choice for the competition. And I might add that the opening stanza remarkably resembles my writing style. You use an ABAB anaphora scheme for the first stanza, which I use in my own poetry a lot.

Thanks so much! This is one of my favorites not only for the flow, but for ever bit of history behind each rhymeand under each letter that makes it full of feelings.
