a voice to command
a voice to obey
a voice to say no to all that
destroys us
the voice of "I hate you" and "It's over"
a voice to say yes to all that
nourishes our lives
the voice of "happy birthday" and "I love you"
a voice to speak out against  injustice
Whistle blowers, buskers, street poet ranters,
a voice to sing our songs of rebellion
to hum melodies of better worlds to come
it's the voice of the oppressors that tears us down
it's the voice of our struggle that strengthens us
 our mumbled acquiescence
the loud raised speech
the indignation of our words
 a voice told them to open fire
a voice told them to disobey
