Secret
Everybody's got a secret
everybody's got a way to live
and I'm sitting here smoking
a stolen cigarette
Everybody's got a lover
everybody's got a hand to hold
and I'm sitting here hoping
I start to live before I'm old
Waiting at an intermission
it's already been a year
I've got all these reasons
why I've been stuck here
So I'm counting trees as I pass by
driving too fast cause I'm not high
waitin for the panic to subside
and I'm praying I'm not
one of the unlucky ones
who never quite gets it right
Your Momma's at a hotel
Can I ask where your dad is?
Sitting somewhere smoking
talking bout his way to live
Your sisters out in 'Bama
and your brothers in the ground
somewhere in Louisiana
a cross can be found
Waiting at an intermission
it's already been 4 years
You've got all these reasons
but its really about fear
So you're counting trees as you pass by
driving too fast cause you're not high
waitin for the panic to subside
and you're praying you're not
one of the unlucky ones
who never quite gets it right
Well I never finished school
it doesn't mean I'm not smart
it took years to realize that
but I've taken it to heart
and all the roads I choose
stain me and they bruise
but if I'm learning
then I'm living
and I've got nothing to lose
Waiting at an intermission
it won't end till I say
I'll skip the rest of the film though
I think I've seen it anyway
So I'm counting trees as I pass by
driving too fast cause I'm not high
waitin for the panic to subside
and I'm praying I'm not
one of the unlucky ones
who never quite gets it right
Everybody has a secret
everybody has a way to live
I don't think anyone's right
and that's what the secret is
everybody's got a way to live
and I'm sitting here smoking
a stolen cigarette
Everybody's got a lover
everybody's got a hand to hold
and I'm sitting here hoping
I start to live before I'm old
