He was Driving that Night

among the shredded beat
of his broken heart
knocked the agony
meaninglessly hollow
sharp shards of emptiness

he touched his face
did he change…?
nobody told him
otherwise
no one spared a glance

they left, they all did
he loved them so
her and his children
but he stood alone
in his silent testimony

a triple curse
of a drunken driver
turning his love
into ashes
dusts in his mouth

his mouth found
the bottle’s neck...
they died in the wreck
he sobbed, spewing gin
he was driving that night.
