Smile

A smile so corroded from the deprivation of happiness
I wear it like a mask, to veil all of my distress
Derived from desolation this pitiful smile seems
It's lost the radiance and warmth that gave it means
It's plastered on my face in an awkward sort of way
Giving the allusion that I'm going to be okay
It hides my confusion, my pain and self doubt
This smile hides my many scars, both inside and out
It allows me the courage to go from day to day
And helps me go on when I want to throw it all away
Even though the smile is fake, it makes me feel alive
It helps me battle the demons that I have inside
