A Soul Like Mine

Staring at the mirror, a flashback's coming on
who I used to be is already gone
and the terror of the night repeats over and over in my mind
I don't know if I can make it out alive
I'm a prisoner of my past so frail and torn
left recalling, all the promises that they'd sworn would
never break...

The walls are closing in on me
I don't want this memory
everything I've tried to forget comes flooding back in
the blood of the unwanted
I've been an outcast from the start
never belonged, never found the other half of my
shattered heart
they tried to change me, tried to replace the pieces
that didn't quite fit
but they'd never seen a soul like mine
they couldn't believe their eyes
for beneath the rust and remnants, there was a precious gem
angelic in nature, forged from within

Searching the horizon, for truth I've yet to find
where I used to stand is crumbling
and the dagger of betrayal creeps back into my thoughts
the silver lining seems too dim to shine
I'm the definition of compassionate love kept from the world
barely breathing, out all the lies and in the hope I see
in your smile...

The walls are closing in on me
I don't want this memory
everything I've tried to forget comes flooding back in
the blood of the unwanted
I've been an outcast from the start
never belonged, never found the other half of my
shattered heart
they tried to change me, tried to replace the pieces
that didn't quite fit
but they'd never seen a soul like mine
they couldn't believe their eyes
for beneath the rust and remnants, there was a precious gem
angelic in nature, forged from within

have you ever seen, a soul like mine?
in you I see, a soul like mine
