Waiting
The hummingbird is the smallest
she wears a richly jeweled collar with pride.
The flower offers nectar
and the most delicate of tongues slips out
of a narrow beak to accept.
Her movements seem so sudden
her presence so fleeting...
I watch expectantly, waiting for a metaphor to come.
Silly poet, the hummingbird needs no metaphors!
she wears a richly jeweled collar with pride.
The flower offers nectar
and the most delicate of tongues slips out
of a narrow beak to accept.
Her movements seem so sudden
her presence so fleeting...
I watch expectantly, waiting for a metaphor to come.
Silly poet, the hummingbird needs no metaphors!
