Image for the poem Father

Father

My mother cried today
Like she has every night
Since he was snatched from our hands
He showed us love, sometimes tough
To make us tough like him
The rock before the storm
To break apart the waves
We could always count on him
Until he was taken away

I know she misses him
But he isn't really gone

Those little tale-tell signs
I see them everyday
Crooked pictures in hallways
Lets us know that he remains
Behind the other veil
I swear I see him sometimes
Like a fleeting shadow
I can still hear his voice
Whispering in my dreams

I know she misses him
But he isn't really gone
I sense him walking by
As he watches all

My mother cries for him
As she holds his picture
Cannot see him beside her
Because his hand is hollow
A guardian angel
Remains against the dark
Like a spark in perpetual night
A shining beacon of light
The rock against the storm

I know she misses him
But he isn't really gone
I sense him walking by
As he watches all
If I could see him now
Would his eyes be filled with pride?
If she could she him now
Would she smile or cry?
