Self indulgence
Is my poetry too self indulgent?
Well, nothing else really interests me
other than how I can relate
the outside world
to myself.
The spinning of the earth
is all well and good,
but when I pick the pen up
I want to try and work
a few things out.
I have no need to write
down
my knowledge
of society,
science,
religion and the arts
all dressed up in floral metaphor.
I leave that to the kittens
in the trees.
Be grateful that I don’t burn
each page as I go;
it’s just a little disposable
life mathematics.
My advice to those with a few issues
at their feet:
Get it out,
it will keep the lions
from tearing your throat out.
Get it down,
and you might find
that
you stumble upon
the obvious piece of advice
the kittens could never divulge.
