Dreaming in Purgatory

last night upon a dreary dusk
feverishly i awoke from a catnap so deep.
a cold sweat glazed over my lackluster skin
retreating to my crystal of gazing dreams.
this is where you have become my nightmare
fearful now of resting slumber
and the torment it has given.
careening my skull and mind
pleading to purgatory to erase these memories,
a framework built for housing my insanity.
to dream no longer i vow
as the voices repeat my ancient plea.
my call goes unanswered as he forms before me
a phoenix rising from the ashes
burning before these mislayed eyes.
must this repeat
unleashing a love misguided and misplaced
doused within this aching pain.
death has claimed you in my mind
and i see the failures i have made
to save the one love of my life.
as a soul-mate your memories have
became my own personal purgatory
pouring as water through my endless dreams.
i will burn for you in hell's fire my love
for eternity or a lifetime if it means
saving you from that darkened day.
fate has laid out the events
that have left us so shallow
struggling to live life day by day.
i have returned to my rightful path
wondering where this love will take us
and which road our afterlife will stride.
