Final Straw

The final straw that held us together
Is now broken
That night I heard you loud and clear
In spite of words you've spoken
I know now the real truth
Not sure why you had to lie
Especially when you saw what I went through
Meant nothing to you, I realize
But I remember what you said
Yup all those sweet words
You're so glad that we've met
Thankful to have me in your world
You hope this continues for ages
And many lifetimes yet to come
I too wanted no changes
But that's already been done
You were nothing but ice cold
When I reached out for your help
No acknowledgment of what I'd told
Switch the subject to yourself
Turns out the way you act
Is quite the opposite of how you write
Was a fool to believe that
You actually wouldn't be the type
Yet another mistake
To add to my collection
You're just another case
Of wasted time, fake intention
I did like how we connected
And the warmth I did receive
Thought we were building friendship
But heart-to-hearts can deceive
I found meaning in our moments
Ones I thought you shared with me
Believed you cared about my emotions
Until your actions gave me clarity
I see the things you do
You're no different from the rest
Spit a good line or two
Make people think they should invest
Be there a little bit
Just enough to keep it going
But it's all about you, isn't it?
True colours finally showing
Well I don't like this colour
In fact it's kind of ugly
I've got lots of love to uncover
But you'll get no more from me
If you decide it's something you really want
Maybe we'll start over sometime
In some ways I won't even be gone
You can still stop and say hi
I'll leave the door open to the possibility
That we could fix all that went wrong
The damage hasn't ruined a future opportunity
Because we haven't known each other long
But we're from two different sides of the forest
And I really should have known
That there was only a slight hope for this
To have actually progressed and grown
