A Melodramatic Morning
Lace up my converse,
put on my cowboy hat,
cake on my makeup,
and stagger out the door.
Take a good look at each image,
I’m sure you’ve seen them all before.
Lace up my prom dress,
put on my smile,
rehearse my ghetto speech.
Take a look at each facade,
the girl dying below, is far out of reach.
Lace up the seams of my shattered heart,
put a pen in my hand,
paint a rainbow above my head
and call it tact.
Soak in the confusion,
stare at it’s beauty, so cracked.
Lace up my converse,
put on my cowboy hat,
cake on my makeup,
and stagger out the door.
