The Love Of My Dreams

Dark, silent nights,
Left alone in my thoughts.
Where countless nightmares hide,
Definitely not a fun place to get lost.

Hopelessly waiting,
For my knight in shining armor.
He should come here to save me,
But where is he? Oh, where?

I look towards the horizon,
Whisper his name as I see his face.
He's trying so hard to reach me,
But somethings standing in his way.

It's that horrible wall,
The one I built around my heart.
With each brick he tears down,
Another one fills it's place.

I try my hardest to let him in,
I imagine a pathway, a door.
Anything to let him through,
To let him near my heart.

He's almost made it,
On more than one occasion.
Made me feel for the first time in forever.
Made me want to feel for the first time ever.

He's so close, yet so far.
With each couple steps forwards,
He takes a step back,
But he's slowly making progress,

I can feel his struggle,
His desire to finally reach me.
To heal this broken heart,
To make me whole again.

I watch from inside,
My kingdom of isolation holding me here.
I watch his attempts to fix years of damage,
To break down walls that took years to build.

I watch in shock,
As he somehow makes it through.
He broke through my last defense,
He found my heart.

He smiles at me,
The smile of a victor.
He reaches out his hand,
And together we dance.

Twirling through the night,
Under the starry sky.
His hands guiding my movements,
His feet floating over the ground.

I fell in love with this man,
My knight, my hero.
He didn't capture my heart,
I happily gave it away.

He leans down for a kiss,
But just as our lips are about to meet,
This beautiful scene dissipates.
I realize it was all a dream.

Once again, I sit alone in my castle,
Wishing for the sweet release of sleep.
Left alone with my thoughts,
Begging for my love I met in my dreams.
