It Starts With Us (Part 1)

In a world so certain of itself, Everyone is so turned around and lost inside themselves
In a world so broken down, Everyone is so determined to remain perfect and in one piece
We’ve been beaten into a thousand pieces, Put back together with lies and misplaced faith
We’ve been at war for a billion years, Yet we’re made to believe in the art of peace

Color became a separating factor in an equation made by a god no one knows
Sexuality is a hopeless roll of the dice, And we’re made to fear our own
Gender hopelessly pegs us into a position we could never dig ourselves out of
We’re digging a thousand foot grave, And in the end, Our words are the nail in the coffin

How did hatred become the new bandage, Covering a wound so festered and putrid
How did one people become a thousand, Failing to cross the distance so close and indifferent
How did we learn to stand by while thousands die and are ripped apart by our brothers
How did this come to be, No one understands, And yet we all claim to know
