How soft the warm sand feels against the soles of my feet as my toes and ankles are gently washed by the clear sea. It’s very early morning and the only sounds to be heard are those of the sea accompanied by gulls flying high above, stopping only to take the occasional plunge into the unsuspecting shoals of fish below.
No buses or cars can be seen or heard till much later, and now it is only 06:30 am.
I can see in the distance, ferries and large ships moving very slowly along the horizon and too far away to hear any noise they create as they make their way through these waters.
Here in the sand scattered all along the beach are remains of driftwood, seaweed, gull feathers and an amazing assortment of shells which once housed creatures of the ocean. Later, the sound of children will be heard, running and screaming with joy as they splash in the water and then collect sea shells to take home. But here and now as the sun pushes itself up from behind the buildings and trees I feel the those warm rays against me, warming me, and making the whole picture before my eyes one to be admired.
I turn and see where I have just come from and smile at the long trail of footprints that are still there in this golden sand. I take a picture of this to remind me of where I have been ‘wishing I could look into the future to see where I am going’.
Having decided to lie down, it feels like a different world here, quiet, sunshine on my tired body, and the pleasant sound of the sea lapping not too far from where I lie.
There’s nothing nicer than lying on warm soft sand, enjoying the sun and being at one with the world. Oh the smell of sea air!
In just a few hours this place will be buzzing with life.
People sunbathing, others playing basketball…children digging in the sand and parents sat enjoying the same experience as me but accompanied by all the hustle and bustle of life in the real world.
By the park the Carousel will be in full flow and the sound of its music will be heard all along this stretch of the beach.
In the park there will be several stands, some providing food such as Hot Dogs Popcorn Toffee Apples Hot and Cold Drinks as well as Sandwiches.
A small shop is situated just near the gates to the park where gifts or souvenirs can be bought to take home.
In the centre of the park is a bandstand where most days there will be a choice of Brass Bands in the morning, or Groups in the afternoon.
There are well maintained walkways that have occasioned seating to rest, facing lawns which are coloured with beautiful plots of flowers.
Finally, a small aviary stands close the bespoke ‘Blue Linnet’ restaurant which is always busy.
This place is probably the best place in the world …well my world!
And right now, while I have the time there are only two words to describe my situation "I'm Beached”.
