Dev And The Tyger
Like the mysteries of all unseen
Or the knowing puns of na Gcopaleen
I’ll chance a tale of woe and pain
That lingers still with Dev’s refrain
The church is dead, long live the fear
That’s only loosened with the beer
And whiskey sorrow numbs all lust
While men with wants destroy our trust
As public office mocks the pride
Once manifest in virgin brides
Some sacrificed so they may know
That greed will never let you go
Our famine plight the tiger stole
The youth so brave in every role
We’ll win if we can tear it down
Through questioning all ways unsound
We’ve bought an economic storm
That distant torture will keep warm
Romantic Ireland’s bought and sold
Through avarice, the bonds mens steely hold
Or the knowing puns of na Gcopaleen
I’ll chance a tale of woe and pain
That lingers still with Dev’s refrain
The church is dead, long live the fear
That’s only loosened with the beer
And whiskey sorrow numbs all lust
While men with wants destroy our trust
As public office mocks the pride
Once manifest in virgin brides
Some sacrificed so they may know
That greed will never let you go
Our famine plight the tiger stole
The youth so brave in every role
We’ll win if we can tear it down
Through questioning all ways unsound
We’ve bought an economic storm
That distant torture will keep warm
Romantic Ireland’s bought and sold
Through avarice, the bonds mens steely hold
