Dusky alleyway

"Men best beware of dubious shadows;
Oblivious eyes are let to die young.
There they lurk with clouds for toes,
The demons that refuse to die hung."

Lights flicker from disused lamp posts,
Heavy breaths overwhelm my movements,
Step after step, a malevolent host
Stalks. With perspiration to augment.

Tap tap tap on this concrete path
I shan't anticipate; desperation won.
Tossed my luxuries for Circumstance hath-
Accepted Lucifer's bidding to be done.

Worn brick walls on either sides,
Walls covered in moss and overgrowth.
There is no other way to change my tides
With this new world seeking my throat!

Oh Lord, forgive me of my sins!
I didn't indulge as an astute merchant.
Fling problems at me, I won't wince!
Just be with me in this feral hunt.

I kneel before you to meet my maker.
You in your grey trench coat before me.
Let it come to you as I pant in languor,
To use discretion while slicing blithely.
