Nightmares- Eyeless
The sun beat down on me
The humidity like violence in the air
Under the red maples
Gems
Glittering
Caught a young girl’s eye
Blue and red
The size of my hand
I bent to take a beauty as my own
But behind me was a noise
Gramma stood
Motionless
Eye sockets empty
Hollowed out to her brain
Even the bone
Grey seeping out
“Gramma?”
I asked, tears running down my face
Then Wyatt came
His eyes the same
Devoid of life and hollow
GREY
I ran to the house
To a cavernous room
A tomb
Dark with endless doors
Nowhere to run
The entered the space behind me
Silent
Grey dripping down their cheeks
Waiting for me to give in
Accept
That my eyes must go, too
The humidity like violence in the air
Under the red maples
Gems
Glittering
Caught a young girl’s eye
Blue and red
The size of my hand
I bent to take a beauty as my own
But behind me was a noise
Gramma stood
Motionless
Eye sockets empty
Hollowed out to her brain
Even the bone
Grey seeping out
“Gramma?”
I asked, tears running down my face
Then Wyatt came
His eyes the same
Devoid of life and hollow
GREY
I ran to the house
To a cavernous room
A tomb
Dark with endless doors
Nowhere to run
The entered the space behind me
Silent
Grey dripping down their cheeks
Waiting for me to give in
Accept
That my eyes must go, too
