The Can Man...
I found myself passing judgement on another the other day
What happen to make this man collect cans
Why wouldn't he just pick himself up and join the rest of us
I've often thought the same of the corner paper man
How lazy of him
Reduced to selling papers at five in the morning
Never giving him credit that he's on the job each day
He could do so much better if he just applied himself
However
Does someone think the same of me
He had such potential
Now...
He opens boxes for a living
What I think I do is...
Provide structure to those who
make eight dollar an hour
Those I spend the most time with would gladly spend three hundred dollars on a belt or pocketbook for bragging right
They're just misdirected people I tell myself
Didn't I think the same thing about the can man
So does that make me an inmate
Or a trustee
Does the fact that I have a title make me any different[/b]
I perform a very simple task
Keeping the line moving
Here's the thing...
When I had more ... I had less
My focus was misguided
As maybe yours might be
A simpler way of life doesn't make you a lesser person
It might make you a smarter one
You know your limitation
You've seen what's on the other side
You just didn't like the person it made you become
Maybe the can collector, paper man, grass cutter, etc. etc
Whoever he/she might be
Found their place before me?
