If I Had A Dollar For Everytime...
Poet police oh poet police
please come to my aid
for I am offended by the word of another
in these waters I want you to wade
I write erotic verse on occasion
but how dare someone suggest
they get turned on by my words
that kind of nonsense is only for the birds!
I make suggestive comments in forums and in comments in response
but these uncouth perverts well they take the cake
so let me share their moronic tales of lust
enough objections and KABOOM they will turn to rust
Now I will ignore how many indecent works of art
have been passed down through the years
some even created in desperation
over countless number of beers
How about a rap group like N.W.A being nominated for Rock Hall of Fame
or Prince and "Darling "Nikki" during his "Purple Rain" reign
Nine Inch Nails used the "f" word even after Tipper Gore's tirade
got Frank Zappa worked up in defending music's stage
So poet police dear poet police
come step up to the plate
with my sensibilities and political correctness
in such a fragile state
out one and all who dare to tell me
about their arousal and their states
just ban them from expression
stop their presence quickly for the world just can't wait!

Thanks, I usually don't do satire...must be getting old or maybe that is what Halloween does for me since the house is so far back on a private driveway that kids don't come by for trick or treat!

So much truth in your satire Bro. Jazz and the perfect example of the immature, innate Tom foolery that goes on in a forum such as this. Jealousy of haters whose readership is not the same as the erotica section. Arguably, we are all created equal by such lewdness of thought and action.
Freely speak what's on your mind and those who do not like this lattitude, let them "kiss thy behind"

Thank you. I am tempted throw another poet's word back in my response but instead I decided to limit my response to a creative endeavor. No reason to get into a a conflict if it can be avoided. I also think distinctions can be made. If someone sends me a offensive private message,(in the form of a poem) I explain what bothers me and it stops, I don't then feel compelled to then take that private message, post it in a forum and then rally a posse. This I contrast with a person who is constantly writing the said messages. As you probably know with me, I am inclined to make a more elaborate case but I will stop here.

Thank you. Some may say it has to do with my zodiac sign but with my time in the classroom, do feel that steps we take to address or correct behavior we object to do need parameters. We also should be aware that everything that makes us uncomfortable can't be equated with a personal threat. I can think of tons of poems of songs that bother me with the suggestive lyrics, whether dealing with sex, drugs, self-inflicted cuts, etc.

this is actually an extension, now that I think about, of a topic talked about months earlier. Some people tend to have this "air of superiority"---if you don't fit their parameters then what you create is less valued. My attitude, which you have probably picked up on is you take the decent with the indecent because those terms of are so subjective. Another reason why most of the time you will find me staying away from the Forums.

re: Re: If I Had A Dollar For Everytime...
As I said before this was a response to other people writing things in Forums...
If others engage in similar dialogue, I reserve my inclination to create a response. There is a point I am trying to make that goes beyond just what was said but rather HOW it is dealt with; a choice that promotes the exchange of ideas as opposed to locking those thoughts in a closet.
Someone writes something you don't like in a private message. You tell them that you objected. They apologize and desist. Keep in mind we are talking about one message. Then you take those words, and use them as evidence that that person is demented or a disgusting creature. Sorry but that isn't how I educate...and I always believe in the power to change.

We have the poetic license to express ourselves the way we see fit, and just as with any art its open for interpretation.
Mr. Jazz you've spoken for all of us in this piece, perfectly penned.

Thanks; if others can find something valuable in what I wrote, that is always a nice bonus, in addition to the effect composition has on me individually.

Creatively done JZM and well thought out. People post some good things some bad but we should be able to take the good & bad to heighten our goals & motivate is to prove, especially those who hate wrong. By letting no one or nothing in life steal our joy.

yeah I also am of the opinion that even with the most atrocious behavior there is a proper way to deal with it. To give a personal example, when I first found this site, I read a poem that was rather offensive to a certain ethnic group. I wrote the person a message saying what I thought. He apologized to me and we are now very good friends. What I didn't do was take his words in the private message, put them in a Forum and then get other writers to advocate for his removal.
In addition more then a few people in the Forums have suggested violent methods in handling conflicts. Now I am not going to say they shouldn't express themselves but come on do really need to talk about physical violence directed towards someone we probably know only from this site?
Ever since a fight on a basketball court in 7th grade, I have been convinced that nonviolent conflict resolution which aims to educate rather then just be punishment, is the way to go.
