The Scar
An inner pain
Held hostage so long
That the mind alone
Cannot contain it
What is hidden
Unseen
Bursts forth
In the immeasurable pain
Of red, raw splitting skin
As congealed blood
Forces its way to the freedom it seeks
The invisible
Manifests itself
Into the physical world
Creating an outward scar
Of an inward wound
That brings fear to the fore
The odd electrifying twitches are
A silent desire of tissue that aches
To be reconnected
To join those parts that are severed
To once again be whole
To finally be
The way
It should always have been

This almost brought me to tears. This describes the motion of self harm perfectly and deals with incredible themes. I self harm and so related on an incredibly emotional level.
The extended metaphor of the cut also relating to losing someone you love and the personification of pain. Perfect. I like how you made invisible pain real and tangible through cutting, showing that it does hurt and it is real even when no one can see it. You've inspired me Jen, you really have. You've moved me to tears. I know what I am to write about tonight. Thank you for piece of poetry.
