the creatures on your shoulders

Pass and serve,
a tennis match
I'm not keeping track of

Eyes on me,
break away and lock on mine again

Bruised heart,
Are you the right puzzle piece?

Kaleidoscope of colour
Your words a breath of crisp autumn air

Lips draw upwards out of my control
Did you touch me, magnetise me?
This is electric, a fire just under my skin
I'm drawn to you
You

We giggle about the wrong things
I say so, and you say,
"Then I don't want to be right."
And I grin and grin and grin

Conversation changes tracks
When you ask about me
I smile quickly, draw the blinds
Point to me, serve to you

I expect you to launch into
A monologue
Everyone, everyone else would
But you don't; you just look at me

Something like understanding flashes in your eyes and I
Want to run, want to hide

I look away and
Don't expect you to but
You step closer

The warmth of your body,
Like a fireplace at Christmastime
You hold my chin
You lean in slow
Give me time
To back away
But I don't
I don't
And you
You

Your lips on mine
Eyelashes flutter against cheeks
You taste me
My lime chapstick
I taste you
Your wholesome beer

A tongue swipes my lower lip and I inhale you
Your kiss is
Warm
Soft
Gentle
Kind
Caring
Careful
I can't think of enough words

And I want more
I want more of you
Like a flashback
I think

I want to see you
Wanton
Groaning
Losing control
Looking at me like I own you
Like I'm the only thing that makes sense

I want you
Sobbing my name
And swearing and sweating and scattered
Incoherent
I want you to need me
I want you broken
I want you helpless needy mine

I gently draw back
Smile, but not without feeling
Shake my head slightly
After all, I barely know you

Is this what flying sparks feels like?

And I can see it then, clear as light
You're thinking I'm a challenge
Do you want to know me?
Do you want to screw me over?

I think,
Doesn't matter

My demon grins and says
Your soul is mine

My angel smiles and says
Your heart is mine

I smile and think
Your body,
Everything about you,
Is mine

And you don't hear a thing
Except when I ask for your number
