Mask of Your Former Happiness
You wear a mask for so long you begin to forget
the person you are beneath it
We all wear masks to hide the faces we don't
want people to see
Some of us hide what we are feeling so well
that the mask consumes you
All the hate, anger, fear and insecurity
becomes an everyday shell
And inside this shell is comfort and security
from the monsters lying under your bed
You become afraid of moving on and opening
your heart again
Because getting hurt by the people that you love
hurts deeply
So you weep and weep till the tears dry out
of your eyes till all that is left is
a mask of your former happiness
the person you are beneath it
We all wear masks to hide the faces we don't
want people to see
Some of us hide what we are feeling so well
that the mask consumes you
All the hate, anger, fear and insecurity
becomes an everyday shell
And inside this shell is comfort and security
from the monsters lying under your bed
You become afraid of moving on and opening
your heart again
Because getting hurt by the people that you love
hurts deeply
So you weep and weep till the tears dry out
of your eyes till all that is left is
a mask of your former happiness
