Black Sands of Iceland

Across the frost covered landscapes of Iceland
vast stretches of black sand seemed ancient
the beauty my eyes inhaled breathed solace
a peace I've never found anywhere else on earth

Beyond a short setting horizon night winced a wink
before the sun shined again to light the day
such an auspicious and haunting array
casting me shadowless
