The Money Ball

Pocket them in sequence
You might be good enough
To shoot the money ball

Patterns of success
Combo, kick or fluke
It doesn’t matter
You win the cash
If you pot the money ball.

Patterns repeat, but never the same
The Celluloid click
Thousands won and lost
Or maybe just pride

Sideline experts
Quick to judge
They never miss from there.
Concentrate now, on the money ball.

The burn marks on the cloth
Illegible Pool shorthand
Of success, persistence, frustration
It’s the secret of the baize
A tapestry of matches now resolved

Cash exchanged, cues put away.
Who got the chance
To pot the money ball?
Maybe it was me.
