Moon and Earth
Her heart beat like the tribal drum
Her olive skinned clan used.
"White demons are coming"
She overheard the Chief say.
The emerald clad earth seemed to scream in protest
At the thought of the invaders.
But, like the inquisitive racoon,
She was curious -
Wanting to know if the white demons
Were really as awfulAs everyone feared.
Top of the cliff she climbed,
Watching the wooden beasts stride in.
Deer scattered deep into the forest
As the demons poured out;
With thunderous power and chaos.
Unknown tools raped the Earth
And tore it apart.
Trees screamed as they were ripped down
And hacked to pieces.
Tears welled in her honey brown eyes
As she watched the destruction of her homeland.
One of the demons slunk away;
Sorrow and guilt in his eyes.
Skin like milk and hair like corn.
She felt his heart was pure.
Like the swift deer she followed him
To the old Willow Tree;
Witnessed as he stroke the bark tenderly.
Whispering unanswerable questions.
The hummingbird flitted close by
And he offered food from his own pocket.
She watched, stealthy like the panther
Hidden in the shadows,
She stepped back
-CRACK!-
Twig snapped.
His head shot up.
Clasping metal in his hand
"Who's there?"
His masculine authority caught her breath
And stilled her thumping heart.
Brave as the bear, she stepped forward -
Hands held out towards him.
His eyes sparkled like deep pools
And his smile was warm and wide.
His arms reached out,
Stopping her in her tracks."Do not be afraid"
Smooth pebbles drop in the brook.
Steady beating of the Earth
Pulled her forward,
She stroked his milky skin
Awed by the pureness.
He wanted to entangle his hands
In her raven black hair
And smell the Earthiness of her.
He leaned forward
And the space closed between them
Moon and Earth colliding
In a torrid frenzy.
Night met day
And passion relinquished -
They drenched the Earth.
Two worlds became one.
After the frenzy, the tides parted.
Side by side they laid,
Panting from exhaustion.
Time stood still
Yet ended all the same.
Their worlds were too different.
It was never meant to be -
Moonlight never reigned on Earth,
And Earth cannot soar.
Sadness welled up in her
And the dam threatened to burst.
He understood as well
And his body petrified.
Voices call -
They froze.
If they were caught, the fires would burn eternal.
Like two wary cougars
They stole parting glances -
Mouring in their eyes.
Slinking into the shadows.
She never looked at the moon
The same way again.[/font]
