The End of Suffering

Innumerable obstacles
are telling us
that we can no longer
go the way
we are used to operating.

We feel this
at first
as hindrance
because we fight,
resist change.

We can feel
the surge
and urgency
of the need
pressing on us,
rushing us,
pushing us uncomfortably.

It becomes
all the more resonant
and calculating
as if to unseat us,
besmirch our good name,
reconnoiter our plans
unseat and unsettle us

we feel pressured
and that things
are like a  rug
being pulled out
from beneath us

and we are
on the bridge
the cusp
the leaning
bleeding edge
of collapse
and despairing
our eventual
displacement.

Birth,
teething,
potty training,
first day of school,
not getting our way,
disappointment,
loss,
falling in lust,
orgasm,
tragedy,
overwhelming emotions,
aging,
dying,
death:

Each stage
of development
along the trajectory
of learning to live
with ourselves
to live
without our previous processes,
of letting go,

each transformation
is an allowing
of reality
to settle in
for the long haul
and forgiving ourselves
for being who we are.

I can't help it,
this is me,
and I am none other,
and so I forgive myself
for being how
and who I am.

I am empowered
by taking my identity
within me.

I am me
and no one else
has this point of view.

This makes me
a god
in my own universe,
unique
and yet humble
for the hell
I went through
to see it
as it is.
