Once Upon a Time

We could have
Looked at each other
across the room
and fell in love
We could have
touched hands
and kissed
We could have walked
out of the door
and ran away
To Forever More

Alas, we did not
meet each other’s eyes
nor touch hearts
nor kissed
or embraced tenderly
under a waning moon
Or danced to the sounds
of trilling birds
and gushing waterfalls
holding tight
as one

So Now we Will
Just walk away
Dreams like
Crumbling walls
Of wishing wells
Falling leaves
Into pools of hope
Tumbleweeds
In deserted hearts
Returning to our beloved
You to Her, I to Him

For a Minute
We were lovers
Within us, Infinite
In another universe.
