Refusal

I’m no mister perfect
And I’ll never be a saint
I’m not that special dream guy
Can’t inspire hearts to paint

If I live to be a hundred
My story won’t be told
And no matter how I try
My hearts not made of gold

But what I’ve left unsaid
I refuse to take a knee
I won’t die before I’m dead

I’ve been used been thrown away
Been hurt and left behind
Left forgotten and deserted
But to me
These memories remind

Of what I’ve finally said
I’ll never fly that white flag
I won’t die before I’m dead

Sanity’s a hairline
Held up only by its knots
And the real world isn’t pretty
But it’s got its peaceful spots

Hit every bump in this road
To try and claim my own
I’ve found all its dark lit corners
But it’ll never change my tone

Those words still race through my mind
Now screaming to be said
I’ll never fall to my knees
I’ll not die before I’m dead
