What if?
What if we never met? Where do you think you would be?
Would you ever yearn for another as you did for me?
Or would you never know deep, scorching, crazy love...
I for one truly believe, thats there's a reason for all that we see
Where would you be if you never knew me?
Never feeling that one special kiss
Never having that one youd always miss
Reaching for the one that would hush your pain...
Would we have met no matter what the stars had in store?
Or was it the Devil settling an old score...
Would I have known the wicked lust in your eyes?
Or would I have settled for a life in disguise...
Would I have been the one that got away?
Or would you have married someone anyway?
This sometimes crosses my mind on rainy, lonely eves
Where would you be if you never met me, could you tell me please?

Well I certainly can relate to this poem from the perspective of the one who is where he is and never met the one like you he was meant to meet.
"Where would you be if you never knew me?
Never feeling that one special kiss
Never having that one youd always miss
Reaching for the one that would hush your pain..."
He would be sitting in an apartment, alone, wondering how it is that so many lonely years have passed by, always wondering how fate could pass him by time and time again. And so much love that has been wasted, 30 years of waste because too many times his heart was broken and there was never anyone willing to mend it. So consider yourself fortunate to have found and to have been found. The alternative is often more than I can bare. Be happy he is where he is because I know what it is like to be where you are not and to be where no one else is either.
By the way, I like the poem, it just touches a touchy spot in me that has never been touched in a way that feels good. Still, it is what I hope for in spite of my old age...
