Fire and Ice

I wish that I could close my eyes
Pretend that I'm not here
Wish that I could believe the lies
Blink back the single tear

Danger everywhere I look
Fire at every turn
Caught by the sharpest hook
Trying not to burn

Block out the fire and ice
Breath against the smoke
Blink once, blink twice
Laugh before you choke

I know that you can't be here for me
That my life is quiet and small
But if you saw all I can see
You would jump into the fall

I know I'm not like the others
I never pretended to be
I didn't hide under lies and covers
I didn't care what they could see

The fight will always continue
And it won't always make sense
A different sight with every view
Fighting forms of defense

I don't want to hear
Don't want to see your face
The mist has drifted clear
The wind had changed its pace

Drive out the empty space
Try to feel again
All the energy gone to waste
Slowly count to ten
