Black hair,

Featuring cheap cigarette smoke and split ends

Falls messily against her uneven skin.

A face holding secrets and stories

Of events witnessed,

And hides them behind an unqualified voice.
 


Black nails,

Featuring uneven strokes and chipped paint

Covers fingernails chewed too short,

Over fingertips that hold sensations

and tales of tainted love,

and hides them beneath a wrinkled proof of identity.
 


Black hearts,

Featuring smeared ink and uneven lines

Cover the veins on her wrists,

Trying to disguise the scars,

That hold every ounce of pain,

And hide them in her thinning blood stream.
