Mourning of Despair
Reread every word and sift through the memories
looking for the thing you've missed.
Touch the face in the photo
that now feels so out of reach.
...and there it is.
That rush of pain that tells you
that you've lost,
and you know
that no thought will ever be as warm
as his body next to yours,
and the shadow of his arms around you will remain
to remind you that he's gone.
Despite the forewarning,
there is no preparing for this heartache.
Nothing to say that the tears won't tell.
Gather up every precious piece to hold onto.
Make your promises to keep some shred of hope,
and pray you'll see his smile once again.
From full to empty
gives the system quite a shock,
but I don't want to cry anymore.
