Visiting The Monster

The little one steals into the darkened lair
creeping down stone stairs into a black bastille
Daddy long ago cautioned her against waking it
but curiosity has gotten the better of her

The monster is locked away in this cold place
in this steel prison, shackled in iron cuffs
Daddy promised her it will always be restrained
to protect her from its depraved fantasies

The little one glides quietly across the floor
halting a safe distance away, out of its reach
Daddy admonished her to never get too close
for it is capable of consuming her soul in a single bite

The animal appears to be sleeping in its cage
eyes closed, chin on its chest, huddled in a corner
Daddy told her that it never truly slumbers
so it will not fool her with this ruse

The little one watches, confusion furrowing her brow
as she is simultaneously repelled by and drawn to it
Daddy confessed that it is never, ever to be trusted
because it wants badly to be free and do harm to her

The brute seems harmless as she stares down at it
pity fills her gentle heart and she fights naïveté
Daddy acknowledged that it is pure vileness
for it is devious and will stop at nothing to have her

The little one knows she can venture no closer
purposely stirring its hunger would be foolish
Daddy warned her about this ravenous thing
how it longs to commit unspeakable atrocities upon her

The fiend, still and silent, looks so much like Him
she is stunned by their resemblance
Daddy admitted it is an important part of him
but that she should still always be afraid of it

The little one wants to reach out, touch it
she wants to stroke its cheek, hold its hand
Daddy is always calm and happy when she does that
but she knows it would not be soothed

The abomination rises and lumbers toward her
red eyes sizing her up, devouring her visually
Daddy instructed her to never look into those eyes
she knows that He is right and fear rises in her

The little one steels herself under its murderous gaze
“i am not afraid,” she declares bravely
“Daddy will always protect me from you.”
her shaky voice threatens to betray her words

The creature twists its mouth into a hideous sneer
“silly little girl,” he replies with a chuckle
“Daddy wants to let me run free. He understands me”
the growl in his voice makes her tremble inside

The little one stands defiantly, chin up, fist on hip
determined the monster shall not see her fright
“Daddy is stronger; he will keep you controlled.”
she believes these words to her very core

The monstrosity stares at her unmoved by her verve
a gleam in its eyes sparks unexpected feelings in her
Daddy’s eyes sparkle that same way
but always with love, never with malice

The little one senses its hunger growing stronger
the scent of her fear has made its appetite fiercer
Daddy explained that it would always be this way
she knows it is now time to leave

The beast grasps a thick bar, shaking it violently
howling angrily when it does not give way
Daddy built its cage to withstand any onslaught
she does not worry that it will escape

The little one turns to leave the dank fortress
looking around to see at last how strong it really is
Daddy keeps this side of Him securely hidden away
because He loves her, He has no choice

The anathema roars in frustration as she retreats
wanting so badly to mark her, to make her bleed
Daddy threatened that tempting it is very dangerous
so she does not look back, to do so may invoke more fury

The little one cries softly as she returns to the light
so sad that such a horrible place must exist to protect her
Daddy confines so much of Himself here for her sake
and realizing that, she loves Him even more
