Sunlit Ashes

One smoke, it couldn't hurt right?
It couldn't possibly stain her existence.
But maybe it could clear all the rough edges and patches in her mind,
Maybe it would clean away the pain, and replace it with serenity.

"Inhale,
Hold it...
Exhale"
He instructed.

Her lungs blazed like sunlit ashes dried nearly to exhaustion.
Clouds rolled passed her lips like waterfalls, the mist disappearing into the air.

She felt nothing; empty almost.

Gathering up whatever was left of her faulty courage,
She took one more drag.
Time ticked away until she started to see the cars drive slower;
Her movements became liquid-like and her thoughts lucid.

It was as if nothing mattered anymore, not her parents, her future, nor her pain.
She felt dizzily and blissfully at peace with reality.

She leaned back into the chair and let the high take her to places she's never felt before,
The clouds were only the beginning.
