River Rocks

River rocks under my feet the water ripples
and my reflection becomes blurry I'm in up
to my ankles

tadpoles scurry around wondering what I
am and I ask myself the same thing thinking
long and hard then forgetting the question

I walk in deeper with my arms out to the
side not sure if I'm doing it for balance or
because the water is chilly, probably both

waist deep I stop and try to convince myself
to go all the way under so I close my eyes
and inhale deeply

I catch a hint of pachouli as the air shifts
and then citrus from my shampoo fills my nose
through the gentle breeze

listening to my surroundings I hear the flow
of the river, the sound of laughter in the distance,
a wood pecker drilling a tree

I exhale and remember someone saying once
"in with the good, out with the bad"and I feel
new again

opening my eyes I look around and see life
and realize it's pretty good then think about
my favorite quote

"there's two day's of the week I don't worry
about, yesterday and tomorrow, "then I sink
to the bottom of the river bed
