The Last Drop of Water
Grandpa had been in the hospital for weeks, battling the dangerous disease. The doctors had told him he would be lucky enough to make it through the week, but he pressed on. when the time came, he had us all called down to his room; he had a few things to mention to us all. He thanked us all for standing by his side, and making his last days comfortable, but he nagged about how we waited until he was almost gone to start paying attention to him. "Now, I'm not gonna nag you to the grave," grandpa said while chuckling. We didn't take to heart with his griping because that's just him being him. "But what I am gonna do, is give you all a piece of advice. Be kind to one another, and cherish your family. Spend time together, be grateful and accepting of each other. I want you all to know, that I love each and every one of you and I will see you all again." Mother started crying and she gripped his hand. "Merissa, don't. You're too strong of a woman for this. You have your brothers and sisters to comfort. You've always been stronger than them at this stuff, so I trust you to do this. Not to mention the children. I will be fine, and so will everyone else. This is just a part of life. Don't worry about me." He took in a quick breath and slowly passed, with a smile on his face. He slipped away from us like the last drop of water falls from the sky.
**AUTHOR'S NOTE**
This was completely fictional, but then again, not. My grandfather didn't die; it was my uncle. I didn't really know him or his death details very well, so I translated it into a more universal theme.
