The Boatman

Cracks in a mirror, Wave in the mind
Unabated and unsure of time to come
Glitches in a clock, Twitches in the hand
Untouched and undone by demons’ hands
Stone on a beach, Sand in the eye
Hardened and softened by a paradise lost
Fading lines on fading streets
Rose up, Fell down, Pushed back up
Rejected from hell, Ignored by heaven
A demon loved by angels
An angel hunted by demons
I look to my shoulders for guidance
I find my body left me
A corpse lost in the ether
A soul on a spiritual journey
“’Scuse me sir, do you have a penny?”
“I have enough sense to borrow from you”
“After all, you gave me breath and life”
“I have one cent, give me one more”
“The boatman demands one and he’s beating down the door”
“You told me to close my eyes but I awoke on the shore”
“You took all I was, father, now take all that’s left”
