Every Scar

Every scar has a name
Even the ones you don’t see
The small light ones
From a rusty old blade
From Sam when she told me she didn’t care
The thick white lines on my wrist
Those are called Glenn
For every time he said he couldn’t love me
There’s Scarlet, There’s Nathan
There’s Derek and Gilbert too
There’s Kamrynn, And even Daddy
There’s one for every “I hate you
Your fat, you’re a whore, you’re ugly”
There’s one for every “fuck me”
There’s a scar for every time
I thought I’d be better off dead
There’s one from 7th grade you still see
I used a knife, an old dull knife
I pressed down hard and pulled
I tore my skin and watched my blood drain
There’s a scar on my thigh For Derek and Kamrynn
One under my belly just for Glenn.
One under my breast
For when I was told I was better off dead
There’s one for my mother, for my aunt and uncle
There’s one for a stranger and my best friend
There’s a scar for everyone, for everything.
My scars have a name, they scream a new story
A story I don’t reveal but they do.
Every scar has a name, every scar has a story
And there is one out there, made by me for you.
