Oh Demise 2

Oh Demise

I walked through the crowd, people kept brushing against me
I moved slowly passing gypsies and men in biker gang jackets
No one will recognize me, the same symbols in a different land
I slipped into a large tent and sat at the makeshift bar I found
I met eyes and ordered a shot of whisky and a pint of beer
The bartender poured them both in the same glass
The ebony ale made me feel odd, the beer wasn’t cold
I turned to my left, an old man sat on the stool next to mine
He was terribly old drinking a tall glass full of wine
His ridged hands shook as he rose the glass to his lips
Arthritis like rigamortis, his darting eyes shot on me

“Gargantuan untruths youthful rose” He laughed
He leaned in, I inhaled his ancient musk
“I’ve seen kingdoms rise and this one will soon foreclose”
I lit a cigarette and asked him, “What?” with a cocked brow
“Ah foreclosed young rose, the gods ain’t been payin the bills
Lost a lot of money recently but it’s the faith they lost”
He smiled.
“You know why all these people are here?” He asked me before draining his wine and refilling his glass from a clay jug.
“I have no idea” I said through a haze of smoke.
“Neither do all of them” He said.
I peered round the tent to see the party had gotten increasingly hedonistic, the gathers had become unhinged.
“This is the last night for this reckless world” The old man said gravely…
“So drink yah stout kid”
