the day the clock stopped
three days of
intermittent sleep
depressed, restless
losing her grip on reality
she shivers as
she moves into
a fetal position
she glances at the
clock on the wall
in her hospital room
the hands motionless
only a prayer
could save her now
she slips one hand
underneath her pillow
clutching her rosary
and the hands on
the clock move
intermittent sleep
depressed, restless
losing her grip on reality
she shivers as
she moves into
a fetal position
she glances at the
clock on the wall
in her hospital room
the hands motionless
only a prayer
could save her now
she slips one hand
underneath her pillow
clutching her rosary
and the hands on
the clock move

Enjoyable perspective about clutching to a rosary as if it was life when really it was what gave life meaning before death.

A great write which leaves much food for thought, very reflective and with much deeper meaning.

Thank you so much, dear lady. It's great to be back. I wrote a sequel to this which I just posted. It has a happy ending.

I love how the clock's hands are motionless until she clutches the rosary & sets prayer in motion. Which seems to automatically set the clock's hands in motion. Wow! to those last two lines. An eerie, supernatural feel to them, in a good way. Take away those last two lines & you have a complete poem, also, that would leave the reader pondering. I think it's these last lines that give this poem its power. Belief. Faith. Action. I can't praise this piece, enough. Great work, Faith!!! :)

I'm so moved by your wonderful comments, Carlene. You made my day. I just posted the sequel to this. I wasn't sure how the first one would go over. Since someone asked for more of the story I wrote more. Hope you enjoy it.
