In Battles
I have
Battled myself
For years since birth.
I have
Waged wars
Against every country in my head.
I have
Seen the rise
And fall of many a great mind
That all belonged to me.
I have drawn maps, blueprints, and conjured up strategies
I have nodded in affirmation
At the same time I’ve called the other islands in my head crazy.
I am an army of me
And I can’t say that we all agree
And I can’t say that you only get what you see
Because I have killed off, mended, and created
All of the pieces of who I have been, am, and plan to be.
Every losing battle won
Every winning battle lost.
Yet I have fought myself enough to know
Every ally
Every foe.
And the very value
of defeat and victory
And the virtue
When waging wars and seeking treaty
with self,
the one true enemy.
Battled myself
