We Are What We Need

In a warm little cave
That opens to the house
A board of blinking lights
Redirects the sounds

From opening to closing
It gives a boost to voice
There isn't really much to a musical
If it doesn't have crisp noise

Tonight the lights went
Click click gone
And the echos faided into the emptiness
Just like the departing participants

Bonded by passion rather than pain
Freaks, invisibles and mainstreams
Found common footing
And created a perfect family

Though it is dysfunctional
With its cliques and fights
We are a tight knit bunch
Standing side by side by side

Cast and crew came together
Forming the first true company
We are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters
And we are what we need

A place to explore
And to express and to escape
A place to openly seek
Who you are meant to be

The seniors are saying farwell
Like they do every spring
They are leaving shoes to fill
And a pair have been passed to me

It started with a boom
And we went out with a bang
Start counting down the months
Until we can reclaim the stage.
