Hallow's Eve
hushed sounds, whispers from silent voices
coming from those relieved of life's choices
hissed murmurs from those long dead
sounding softly within youth's head
tombstones standing silent and tall
making the teen feel very small
a haunted night is Hallow's Eve
a feeling of dread makes most take leave
of it's signs or symptoms, there were none on her
she could be enjoying it one might infer
the night was as dark as an un-lit hole
endless as an abyss, black as coal
no hope-lit stars pierced the night sky
neither insect nor bird dared to fly
the full moon cast down it's silvery glow
all the shadows couldn't bear to lie low
harlot walked on, enjoying the scene
then through the murmurs came a scream
blood curling howls echoed around
the maker of them not meant to be found
wavering leaves rustled in the wind
unmowed weeds began to bend
Hallow's Eve is such a sight
adrenaline pumped to it's full height
shadows flickered here and there
never unsettling the young lady fair
a certain voice, so gentle and kind
stood out from the rest in her mind
'come join us,' it began to softly hiss
'there's no better way to be than like this
beneath the ground atop the trees
no views are like the ones we see'
'with life's petty decisions we don't have to bother
we don't even care for another
so please come and join us, sweet lady
and earn your right to the path of immortality'
she felt compelled to say yes
and join them in their invisible bliss
but then held it back and thought 'no'
'that is not for me you know'
'to roam freely i do when i please
for every chance i always sieze
as for petty decisions you can say
some make them for me as i pay'
'no i shall not join you
not even for a glorious view
living like this i will always be free
and stay among humans to roam shore to sea'
coming from those relieved of life's choices
hissed murmurs from those long dead
sounding softly within youth's head
