LE SOMMEIL 2 (another poem inspired by painting)

(A fanciful - not historic - account of how the Courbet painting may have come about.....)  
  
His favourite blonde and favourite brunette  
lay in a content pose he could not forget.  
He thought he’d just be one-on-one with the blonde;  
he’d seen both on the go, but not known their bond.  
   
He was in a triangle like no other  
he’d known in his career as a lover.  
His two best-loved beauties, lain together nude,  
formed a scene on which he felt could not intrude.  
   
He’d stay long just enough to savour that sight,  
and write a quick note, go back into the night –  
then Brunette stretched out her right arm in a stir  
with her special catchphrase: “Come and join us, Sir!”  
   
For price of one night he got twice the action  
and a twofold dose of sex satisfaction.  
When so gratified he was almost fainting,  
he gasped “You’re grande!  Like to be in a painting?”
