Poetic Justice
A bit of a love poem/song I guess, though its socio-political in nature.. I came back from living in Viet Nam and hadn't debriefed on what id learnt, loved and felt until I wrote this... its the first thing I ever wrote for performance 2 years ago.. this is an intimate version of the piece, changes all the time.. hope you enjoy.. :)

Each year I make a pact to change her existence,
to proceed with an attentive need to attention with persistence.
Face resistance? Yeahhh
And every measure of my leisure to her brings insistence..
…That’s there’s always a perpetrator and always a victim
To slice like a scythe, a sickle to sow seeds deep within em
So I walk aimless like truth, nobody.. no soul
Stroll country roads and drop knees to potholes
But im up and running, I enjoy my emptiness
We build concrete contrasts together that crumple like ants nests, when stepped
And She. Shes just a part of the plan
Cultivating minds of man, man, many meticulous mountains of sand upon my land
The view expands
So take my hand.. and place a ring on it
And I promised to return when ive grown to fit within in
Till then…
I’ll make a pact to change her existence,
to proceed with an attentive need to attention with persistence.
Face resistance? Yeahhh
And every measure of my leisure to her brings insistence..
…That it aint just injustice
Its life as a whole
That she’s an Eastern woman and I’m a man who can stroll
And Justice to her is just a boys name
intangibly unreal, for real, a shame...
That I can make and break just causes
Come up with deplorable applauses, bend forces, live with losses
While she watches crops grow, I watch TV cop shows
As they spell out Justice in long rows…
And if I was to spell out justice for her, it would go
The J: is for Jenny
U: Unmovable
S: the sex she endures while dutiful
T: for the trust in the culture she’s placed
(And)
I:
C(ee):
E:(ach) scar of salt on her face
So I use poetry for her justice, just poetics
the poetry of justice that is just pathetic
I use poetry for her justice, just pathetic
Coz the poetry of justice is just poetics
And I can walk away, so I do..
Till the next year.. I make a pact to change her existence,
to proceed with an attentive need to attention with persistence.
Face resistance? Yeahhh
And every measure of my leisure to her brings insistence..
That I should make a pact to change MY existence, to proceed with an attentive need to attention with persistence.
Face resistance? Nahhh
Coz every measure of my leisure to me brings subsistence..
So take my hand jenny, and place a ring on it
… and ill promised to return, when I’ve grown to fit within it
Thanks for watching :)
