The universe poem
I walked by the trees today,
waking them up with
my cigarette smoke,
they were
a little taller now
and so was I
since we first
held hands and
walked by these
slowly swelling memories
etched into bark.
I've always wanted
to write
I love the creases
in your cheeks
when you smile,
like really write it
on your forearm
with permanent marker
and go over it
until it becomes
a really blotchy
looking home job
but instead,
I just traced it
with my fingers
as I tickled your back.
waking them up with
my cigarette smoke,
they were
a little taller now
and so was I
since we first
held hands and
walked by these
slowly swelling memories
etched into bark.
I've always wanted
to write
I love the creases
in your cheeks
when you smile,
like really write it
on your forearm
with permanent marker
and go over it
until it becomes
a really blotchy
looking home job
but instead,
I just traced it
with my fingers
as I tickled your back.
