Annette's Sonnet

("And Now It's Time To Say Goodbye")  
 
Music locked in memories long interred,  
now summoned in this hour upon the stage,  
as if within an echo chamber heard,  
with time more sweetly penned across this page.  
Nascent youth hooked amorino's arrow,  
for love of modest maiden he was bled.  
Vernal visions vied to quicken marrow,  
'till stood the doppelgänger in his stead.  
Reflected ruins etched upon a lake,    
restored by hindsight keen and never clearer,  
demure and dip below the windward wake,  
dragging secrets deeper 'neath the mirror.  
Brightly sound her songs to this aging ear  
candles lighting dreams that to the darkness veer.
