The Sea Inside (and with Borgés Elohim I swallow Language)
I hear your voice in the cold damp morning
sitting on the Village Green reciting
your troubadour psalms
I hear your voice in the engine of a Mustang
driving ninety miles an hour down
an unknown highway
I hear your voice in my book of Rothko paintings
disguising your poems
with the desolation of Black on Grey
beneath meditation suicide
I hear your voice hungry
I hear your voice stoned
I hear your voice drunk
I hear your voice hungover in a nightmare
I hear your voice dreaming through the verses
of a cabaret epic...

A Broken Down Battered Backroad Eulogy
I sit here trying to remember the last time
I thought about God
But it seemed like I never thought about God before
And I thought about God
The way some people think of their fathers
I thought about God
And asked God to protect me
But I wasn’t sure why I was asking God for that
I know I thank God everyday
For giving me strength energy speed endurance
The mantra of the last mile the last lap
Towards a directionless home
God--sitting on my dresser
Waiting to be summoned up
When the food’s wrapped up
Dogs fed
And I’m undressed...
I thought about God

Famished: Poem Unlimited
I'm hearing this poem in my head
its from my past/its my past
and it wants me to write it out
from inside my head
it was there from the beginning when I was nearly dead:
this poem/this poem bitchin at me
asking what am I, am I what, and am what I
bitchin at my head bitchin at my meat,
shakin on my hips,
wobbling on my thighs,
wastin inside my breast,
gettin tricked by my lies--
all messed up words, broken,
all messed up mind, spoken,
all messed up shit, sounding,
words...am, what, I, what, I, am, I, what, am
over and over and...

and it wants me to write it out
