POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
This Holy Night
As the cold creeps its way through the city streets
Street lights flicker and pop as night falls
The restless and homeless seek shelter
As headlights illuminate tent cities
Shoppers fill their bags of greed
As snow covers the night world
No time to help their fellow man
They must prepare for the celebration
How many will die tonight?
While not a thought is given
How can you feast at your table
When the unfortunate beg for scraps
They celebrate the birth of a king
While never giving thought to his...

Thank you
A big thank you to everyone that submits their work here. After a long day i find it relaxing to sit and read everything new. It really lowers my stress level. Nothing like reading new poetry and a warm cup of tea after a long and cold day. Just wish I had more time to write myself. Thank you!

WHY CAIN?
Sirens wail in the distance
Another deadly night
You started this
You're the reason i can't sleep
Why did you kill abel?

Black dress lady
I see her everyday
The ragged black dress
Tells me it's her
Alone she sits
All her worldly
Possessions by her side
The overpass
Is her roof
Keeping out the rain
The look of despair
And desperation
Are etched on her face
Is she known
Does she have identity
Among the homeless community?
I want to help her
Let her know I care
Give a simple act of kindness
Days turn into weeks
Weeks to years
Still i see her there
Someday I want to stop

Time
They say
Time heals
All wounds
How can
That be true
When I still miss you
Time heals
All wounds
How can
That be true
When I still miss you

Saturday night rain
Sitting here listening to the rain
Alone
Again
Counting how many times
In my life this has happened
Must be a million people living in this city
Yet I feel like I am lost in a far away wilderness
Alone
Again
What did I do wrong?
How is it that life is passing me by?
Did I take the wrong fork in the road?
The rain tells me that I am
Alone
Again

I STILL REMEMBER
I still remember not knowing my parents
I still ask why you gave me away
Why did you bring me into this world
If you didn't want me anyway
I still remember the orphanage
How often i was bullied there
Why didn't anyone help me
All those times i was pushed down the stairs
I still remember when you said you liked me
How you thought i was different from the rest
I was foolish to believe you and your cruel game
How you all laughed and said it was just a test
I still remember being too poor to buy a car
All those...

How's your day?
I just love driving in the city with rain pouring down. No one uses their turn signals or stops at stop signs. The entire experience becomes a guessing game.
Nobody gives way to anyone. Everyone just angles, points, drives directly toward his or her destination. Pretending its an all or nothing gamble which most of the time it is. People glare at one another and fight for maneuvering space. All parties are equally determined to get the right of way, they insist on it! They swerve at the last possible moment, giving scant inches to spare. The victor goes forward, no time for a...

Eclipse
It's the eclipse, it's the eclipse!
Ah, never mind
I just forgot to open my blinds this morning.

Homesick
I can't go back
This is where life has taken me
The city reeks with indescribable smells
Sirens blast like the city anthem
Multiple murders every day
People unfriendly, rude, obnoxious
I can't go back
This is where life has taken me
I miss the mountains, breathing fresh air
The quite sounds of the meadow
Peace and tranquility of the babbling brook
Everyone knows my name
I can't go back
This is where life has taken me
My tears drop on the filthy street
Reminding me of the morning dew ...
